Knowledge and the exchange of experience are an essential part of developing every serious sporting event.
Somaraton Events took part in the Global Running Conference 2026, held on September 17 and 18 in Copenhagen as part of the programme accompanying the World Athletics Road Running Championships Copenhagen 26.
Organized by World Athletics, the conference brought together representatives of races, athletics federations, cities, companies and other stakeholders from the running industry from around the world. Key topics included the future of mass-participation running events, changes in participant demographics, sustainability, new technologies, the relationship between events and local communities, as well as models of cooperation between organizers, cities, federations and business partners.
For Somaraton Events, taking part in gatherings like this is about much more than simply following global trends. It is an opportunity to compare the experience of leading organizers with our own practice, develop new knowledge and ideas, and apply them to the events we work on.
Because developing events also means continuously developing the people who create them.
