Another edition of the Sombor–Baja Ultramarathon, one of the most operationally complex projects we work on, has been successfully delivered.

What makes this event unique is not only its ultramarathon distance. Over the course of a single day, the race connects two cities and two countries – Serbia and Hungary, linking a country outside the European Union and Schengen Area with a country that is part of both.

This concept presents organizers with challenges that go far beyond standard race organization: crossing an international border during the event itself, new EES procedures, transporting participants and equipment between two countries, and coordinating institutions, security services and organizing teams on both sides of the border.

Projects like this demonstrate particularly well how important planning, partnership, communication and the ability to adapt are to the successful delivery of a sporting event – especially when situations arise that cannot be addressed through standard organizational models.

And when everything comes together as planned, what remains is what matters most – the participant experience and the emotion that inspires us to create events like these in the first place.

Successful events are not simply organized – they are developed.
